Review of In Chains:

"Coming on like the ocean, ancient, enveloping, and with just a little darkness beneath, "Flash In A Bottle" opens up In Chains, the final EP in Dead Heart Bloom's trilogy. If this song doesn't move you, check your pulse. In Chains calls to mind a whole host of atmospheric romantics, blending Phosphorescent's dragging pulse, Baxter Dury's combo of pop melody and trippy production (especially on the slinky, insinuating "Halfway Gone"), and Mark Lanegan's sepulchral tone. Nothing else here quite hits the level of "Flash In A Bottle", but Dead Heart Bloom's Boris Skalsky has only himself to blame for setting the bar so impossibly high."

Reviews of In Chains:

"The ever growing DHB released three EP's that all explore a different musical style. They are all absolutely riveting to listen to, and all worth picking up without hesitation. The last of the EP trilogy, In Chains, contains one of the most gorgeous songs to come out of the year, 'Flash in a Bottle'..." - The Frontloader

"It's phenomenal, and a testament to the band's talented musicianship and songwriting, how Dead Heart Bloom is able to hop genres so easily while maintaining originality and artistic integrity. Each EP in this series is well crafted and exquisitely recorded and mixed. But the true marvel lies in the way they are all tied together, even though musically divergent, with a common theme, complete with splendid cover art and designs. In fact if you lay out all three EPs in sequential order, the front mosaic makes a composite picture of a chained, deteriorating wall, while the back spells out the band's name..." - Delusions of Adequacy

NEW EP RELEASE!

Dead Heart Bloom is releasing its last music of 2008: the EP In Chains. This is the third (and last) EP of a three EP series. The new music is available now exclusively through the DHB online store and music page and will be available at other on-line and retail outlets in 2009.

Earlier in 2008, the band released the first and second of their three EP series, Fall In and Oh Mercy. Rollingstone and CMJ described them as “a sublime combination of dour, druggy vocals and corkscrewing guitars” and “an unusual blend of intentionally unsettling bluesy yet aggressive rock guitar driven” music. In Chains, continues the stylistic experimentation of the series but explores a softer dimension: it is wrapped in reverbed vocal lines, poignant acoustic phrases, and laid back drum shuffles.

In Chains was recorded by singer/instrumentalist Boris Skalsky and guitarist Paul Wood at the band's Brooklyn studio and includes performances with drummer John Hadfield and bassist Nathan Goheen and a number of guest musicians.

Join the Dead Heart Bloom mailing list for updates on this and future releases. Thanks for the support... and happy New Year!

Dead Heart Bloom has finished recording, mixing, and mastering its third EP this year, 'In Chains', the 3rd EP in a 3 EP series. The previous EPs, 'Oh Mercy' and 'Fall In', were released earlier in 2008. Look for songs from 'In Chains' to be posted exclusively to the Dead Heart Bloom site in the coming weeks...

CMJ review of Oh Mercy:

Earlier this year, the men of Dead Heart Bloom announced their 3 EP series slated for release in the remainder of 2008, but when Fall In, the first EP, was heralded as "...a sublime combination of dour, druggy vocals and corkscrewing guitars," it was uncertain whether these rock and roll newcomers would be able to maintain the same momentum in the following EPs. Well, in their second release, Oh Mercy, they do one better; they raise the bar.

Oh Mercy spirals further down into the murky depths of rock music than its predecessor; this time louder, more distorted and more pugnacious. In opener, "Love Like Lies" colossal waves of fuzzed-out classic guitars crash down, as the uneasy harmonies sing "Forgive my body, it's breaking/Forgive me my hands, they're shaking/Forgive all those words you love like lies." And these tension-mounting progressions are typical of Dead Heart Bloom's stylistic experimentation's on this particular project.

The band explores an unusual blend of intentionally unsettling bluesy yet aggressive rock guitar-driven while introducing the concept-EP. Oh Mercy begins with an anguished love-story, immersed in self-destruction, and within its 5-song evolution, transitions to a plea for mercy from whatever gods still exist.

Review of Oh Mercy:

Dead Heart Bloom once again has rocked my fucking face off with their second EP of three to be released this year by KEI Records. Their first EP Fall In was an epic roller coaster ride of an EP giving us plenty of look into the talent and capabilities of Dead Heart Bloom. Oh Mercy, while sill showcasing their excellent skills as musicians, is just a straight killer and is something you could dance or mosh too-- what ever your preference. 'Love Like Lies', the first track, is not what I expected: more of a shoegazer pushed to a crazy level that few would dare try. The real showcase on the album 'I’m Going To Go Meet Jesus' is a genre stretching track that kids in Judas Priests shirts to those of you out there sporting sweaters and bad haircuts can enjoy. But the most shocking and in my opinion ridiculously awesome track is 'Hymn', the final track. What a fucking way to end an EP with such an over the top presentation I feel like I’m being chased by the Inquisition. Once again Dead Heart Bloom shows why they’re going to be the next big thing to hit the market and I’m eagerly awaiting their third EP. -NeuFutur
